Vapor Rub Recipe

We are in the heat of allergy season. Trees are past the point of full bloom, and pollen counts are getting up there. For those of you that get the irritating itchy eyes, watery eyes, bloodshot eyes, and any other kind of eyes or throats or skins or heads associated with allergies, here are two ways you can avoid walking through the pollen-infested outdoors by making some imitation Vicks vapor rub right at home.

DIY Vick’s Vaporub Recipe Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup olive oil, coconut oil or almond oil
  • 2 level tablespoons of Beeswax Pastilles
  • 20 drops of Eucalyptus Oil
  • 20 drops Peppermint Oil
  • 10 drops Rosemary Oil
  • 10 drops Cinnamon Oil or Clove Oil (optional)

Homemade Vick’s Vapor Rub Recipe Directions

  1. Melt beeswax with oil of choice in a double boiler until just melted.
  2. Add the essential oils.
  3. Stir until well mixed and pour into some type of container with a lid to store. Any small container will work well.
  4. Use as often as needed to help sooth coughing and congestion.

If you are using this on a baby, you will need to be sure to dilute this recipe with coconut oil and be sure to use only as much as you need.

At-Home Shower Disk Recipe

If you prefer to get your bursts of moisture while in a hot, steamy, shower, we’ve got a shower disk recipe for you, as well.

Shower Disk Recipe Ingredients

  • Baking Soda
  • Water
  • Eucalyptus Essential Oil
  • Lavender Essential Oil
  • Rosemary Essential Oil
  • Muffin Tin
  • Muffin Liners

Home Shower Disk Recipe Directions

  1. Add two or three cups of baking soda to a mixing bowl.
  2. Slowly add water until you have a thick, paste-like putty.
  3. Add 15 drops of your essential oils.
  4. Spoon your putty into muffin liners in a muffin tin and let sit for 12-18 hours, or bake to speed up the process.
  5. Remove disks from muffin liners, place in shower, and let your nasal passages be cleared!
